Growing up in Hawaii, "Doc" fell in love with acoustic Delta blues, "Doc" or Brian Thornton, loves to surf, go barefoot, and play guitars. He is holding two 100-year-old guitars he uses to perform within the Mississippi Blues Band. Dr. Brian Thornton is a 70-year-old tenured UNF professor teaching communication law and ethics during the day. However, his passion is Blues Music, and he wants to pass on the stories of the original blues artists so people can appreciate their genius and struggle to create the Blues we enjoy today. When performing with the Mississippi Blues Band, he tells stories about these Blues artists, who are at the foundation of all Music.
The Mississippi Blues Band plays mostly Mississippi Delta Blues Music of the 1920s and 30s. The Band also plays Blues songs from artists known for playing the Blues up through later years. This style of the Blues uses finger-picking and slides on acoustic guitars to create its unique sound.
